More About Me:
Folly’s research career started as an undergraduate at Denison University where he majored in Psychology. During his time as an undergraduate, Folly simultaneously worked in Dr. Nestor Matthews’ lab researching sentence length perception using psychophysics and Signal Detection Theory and Dr. Erin Henshaw’s lab examining COVID-19 related anxiety and its relationship with college students’ sense of locus of control in relation to their health and attitudes toward campus restrictions, their levels of depression, stress, physical-health, and social support.

Prior to joining the Bravo lab, he worked in academia as a Senior Research Associate for Dr. Jane Couperus at Mount Holyoke College where he investigated neural representations of visual selective attention in adults and children, as well as examining individual differences such as socioeconomic status and their impact on cognition. Outside of the lab, Folly has focused in promoting public health outcomes through his work at the National Institute of Health, his service at Florida International University summer treatment program, and his work for the Psychology & Education Anti-Racism Committee in South Hadley, MA.

In his free time Folly enjoys exercising (running, weightlifting, stress relief yoga), reading and creative writing, and practicing his Japanese through Japanese literature and film.

Current Research Interests:
Javi’s research interests focus on mental health, including mindfulness-based interventions for managing mood and stress, restricted eating and body satisfaction, the role of cultural differences on self-identity, and substance use disorders.​

More About Me:
Javi’s experience began as an undergraduate student at the University of Iowa, where she majored in Psychology. As an undergraduate, Javi worked with Dr. Christine Shea, researching dual-language programs and the student’s language identities. She then joined Dr. Emily Thomas’s lab, examining changes in mental health and vascular function throughout pregnancy, postpartum, and early childhood using structured clinical interviews and neuroimaging sessions. Outside the lab, Javi provided services to children and students with disabilities and mentored Latinx students about options for higher education through Al Éxito in Iowa.​ In her spare time, Javi enjoys going on walks with good scenery, making jewelry, and journaling.​
